GLA:D (Good Living with Arthritis: Denmark) is a 7 week exercise and education program designed to help individuals with hip and/or knee osteoarthritis.
GLA:D is a Danish based initiative where education and exercises provided can be applied to everyday activities, ensuring participants develop skills to self-manage their osteoarthritis. By strengthening and improving confidence with exercise, participants develop better capacity to become or stay active, prevent symptom progression and reduce pain.
Current research shows that participants have reduced pain levels, reduced medication use and reduced sick leave. Participants have also shown increased levels of physical activity and satisfaction with results 12 months post completion.

- I do not know how to exercise
- I know I should exercise but I find motivating myself to get going difficult
- I have been told I might need surgery but wish to try something else first
- I tried exercise therapy but felt like it was not working (maybe it was too easy or too hard)
- I worry when I exercise that I am making my condition worse.
How it works.
The program is run by our GLA:D qualified physiotherapist, Sheila.
Week 1 consists of two education sessions.
Week 2 to 7 involve two weekly strength and conditioning exercise classes, supervised by Sheila.
The cost of the program is $420 ($30 per one hour session). Before you start, there is also a 1:1 session with Sheila that is charged as a regular consult, $98 or $120 if it is your first time to O-health.
This program can be claimed on your private health insurance if you have physiotherapy as an extra.
